Even if you have had a day of diamonds, remember that tomorrow could be chock full of unwanted gravel. And, of course, vice versa.

I am not peddling pessimism. My statement is about reality. The endless cycle of ups and downs we encounter as we walk this good earth.

Me, I have been in the gravel pit for an entire week! Not that I’m blue or feeling sorry for myself; it has merely been a week in which I’ve faced several challenges. Stones!

It all began on July 1 — Canada Day. We had a low-key BBQ with the family. Such an exciting time because we have avoided physical contact for 16 months due to COVID. My daughters are educators, and my son-in-law is a corrections officer. All at reasonably high risk for exposure to the virus, so face-to-face meetings were seldom, always outdoors and from a distance. By Canada Day, we’d been vaccinated and could gather without much concern.

Anyway, back to my gravel pit… My heart dog, Storm, a CKC Championed show dog, perfect angel and producer of multiple Championed and Group-Placing offspring, had a medical event.

Whether it was a stroke or vestibular disease, we don’t know. At 16 years of age, a confirmed diagnosis was not necessary. I’d had Storm since she was a 12-week old puppy. She had lived a good…
